ALBANY, NY -- EmblemHealth Health@Work, formally known as the Occupational and Environmental Health Center of Eastern New York (OEHC), was awarded $150,000 through the Charles R. Wood Foundation for a mobile unit health clinic to provide onsite healthcare services to workers. The focus will be on serving workers with limited access to occupational care due to a lack of medical treatment options in their geographical location.

“For our working rural communities in the upstate region, basic access to primary care and occupational healthcare services can be hard to come by,” said Dr. Sheila Butler, Medical Director of EmblemHealth Health@Work. “The funding from Charles R. Wood Foundation will promote the build-out and enhancement of a mobile health care unit where individuals can receive comprehensive care related to workplace injuries to help avoid chronic conditions before they start. We are grateful for the generous funding of the Charles R. Wood Foundation and their joint commitment to promoting preventive health measures among the workforce populations we serve.”

The mobile healthcare unit initiative will accommodate the occupational health needs of Health@Work’s clients. Onsite preventive health services will include yearly physical examinations, vaccinations, surveillance examinations required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), first responders’ surveillance physicals, respirator clearance and fit testing, audiograms, and more.

“One of the pillars of the Charles R. Wood Foundation is to support local healthcare initiatives and projects to enrich the health and vitality of individuals, families, and communities upstate that need it most,” said Charlene Wood, Chair and Trustee of the Charles R. Wood Foundation. “We are proud to award this grant to EmblemHealth Health@Work, which has a longstanding legacy of caring for these communities and delivering on our mission by bringing critical occupational care to workers of the Capital Region, Mohawk Valley, and portions of the North Country.”

The mission of the Charles R. Wood Foundation is to assist areas of particular need in the Lake George Region and surrounding areas. The mobile unit initiative made possible through the grant strengthens EmblemHealth Health@Work’s commitment to workers’ preventive healthcare and to serving underserved workforce populations.
